This contemporary camp/cottage was an Architectural Record House of 1968! Perched on a hill overlooking the confluence of the York River and harbor channel, the house’s three pavilions, grouped around a protected courtyard, are designed to take maximum advantage of the dramatic site. The two-acre property affords total privacy with a large flat back yard and lawns sloping to the water.

A central pavilion houses the open living/dining and kitchen functions of the house. A large brick fireplace mass separates the living from the dining area, which adjoins the open galley kitchen. Off the living room, a large deck with table seating for six yields great views of the water.

The bedrooms reside in two separate wings, each with its own bath, providing two separate and independent master suites or a children’s wing. There are two second-floor lofts each with a study/studio.

The five bedrooms are configured as follows:

East wing—upstairs master bedroom with queen bed; downstairs with 2 twin beds; downstairs den/tv room with 1 single bed.

West wing—upstairs study/studio with two trundle beds (2 singles); downstairs master bedroom with double bed.

Facilities and conveniences include cable television (TV with VCR/DVD), wi-fi internet throughout the property, microwave oven, washer and dryer, extensive library with fiction and art/architecture books. This summer-only house has no central heating or air conditioning, but electric blankets and space-heaters are available upon request. Weekly light cleaning is included.

For boating and swimming there is a nearby marina within a mile, and York Harbor, one of Maine’s most beautiful beaches, is a  mere five minutes by road. Those staying a month of more may be able to arrange the use of a nearby private pool. Swimming is also possible in front of the house at the rocky shore, which lies across quiet Western Point Road, although there is no direct coastal access.

Available May 15 through September 30.
