The house was built in 1925, in the newly legislated Spanish Colonial Revival Style, following the devastating earthquake of that year. It was designed by an important woman architect, Mary Osborn Craig, who with her husband James, designed many other significant Santa Barbara landmarks. This house is part of an ingenious and forward looking urban development: a row of houses intended to enhance the setting of the 1812 Mission, “the Queen of the Missions” located across the beautiful public park and Rose garden. It is a protected Santa Barbara Landmark.
